ATLFF Screenplay Competition

The Atlanta Film Festival has a four-decade long history of discovering and nurturing new filmmaking talent, which showcased the early acts of Robert Rodriguez, Spike Lee, and Victor Nunez. The Screenwriting Competition was established in 2008 to expand this tradition by recognizing the foundation of the art form in the film. Recently, the Atlanta Film Festival Screenwriting Competition was recognized as one of the “15 Screenwriting Competitions Worthy of Submission of 2021” by MovieMaker magazine.

The 2022 Atlanta Film Festival Screenwriting Competition is dedicated to finding the best screenplays from around the world and offers its writers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a writing workshop and teaching program with industry professionals.

Three feature film scripts, one pilot script, and one short film script were selected from the submissions to participate in a one-on-one mentoring meeting. Not only do they get notes on their winning screenplay, but the winners also build meaningful relationships with their mentors and networks along with a diverse and experienced host of filmmakers and industry experts who attend the Atlanta Film Festival each year.

Atlanta Film Festival Screenwriting Competition winners were honored with the Black List, selected for the Sundance Directors Lab, signed with representation, selected their winning screenplays, and wrote/directed critical and successful commercial independent films.
